Second Trip - Hardeeville, SC

It's July 6 around 8:30 a.m. and the three of us are packed and ready to roll...headed for Hardeeville, S.C. and as it turned out we couldn't have picked a hotter 3 days. The temperature was around 106 and we all agreed not to go RVing south of Myrtle Beach in July again. Instead we will head towards the Mountains.

Anyway, Kathy had made reservations at Camp Lake Jasper, about 3.5 hours from home. This seemed like a great location for a home base and be able to go to Bluffton and Beaufort South Carolina. It is actually only about 30 miles to Savannah as well but we had no plans this trip to go to Georgia.

Anywho we made great time; arrived and got settled in and immediately headed out for Bluffton. Kathy had wanted to go to the Farmers Market there and as it happened it was a pretty cool place, except for the actual temperature and it really was too hot to do very much. IT was soooo hot we even kept the top up in the car.

Michael, as finicky as he is with what he eats and drinks, surprised us by sampling some Elderberry Elixir made by the Herb Room out of Hilton Head, SC. While he said it tasted good he didn't buy any. As to putting something in our mouths, we had hoped we would eat some of Bluffton's oysters out of the May River but it was just too hot to eat anything (although Kathy did have a Bourbon Sour along the way). So we just drove around and stopped in a couple of stores and then headed back to the RV. The heat had really taken its toll on us so that evening Kathy fixed hoagie sandwiches and macaroni salad (cold food thank Heaven) and we just hung out.

The next morning we got up and went to Beaufort. Our first stop was the visitors center, which is the Arsenal that was built in 1798 and arrived just in time to watch a demonstration of a rifle being shot. The demonstration and historical presentation was given by Jacob Leonard whose family owns the tour company The Spirit Of Old Beaufort .

Again, it was so hot that we didn't do much walking around and did our sightseeing from the car. We did go in a few stores downtown near the waterfront. One is a must see called Sweet Bay. We also had lunch in the area at a restaurant named Plums that came highly recommended at the visitors center. Michael had fried oysters and sweet tea and Kathy had shrimp and grits and a Bourbon Sour. We happened to be seated by two local ladies and really enjoyed their company.

After lunch we drove around the area to some of the islands. It was a beautiful day to be in a car with the AC on high.

In the late afternoon we made our way back to the RV and Kathy fixed Spaghetti for dinner

that she had made ahead and brought with us. After dinner we watch an episode of House of Cards.

Saturday morning we got up and Kathy fixed eggs and country ham for breakfast. We broke camp and headed back for Myrtle Beach.

Our next trip is the end of August and we are headed out for Cheraw, S.C.
