First Trip-Johns Island, SC

helping Michael drive

We just got back from our first trip in the ERA. For this outing we wanted to stay close to home because the real objective was to fool around with all the bells and whistles. So we pulled out from Myrtle Beach Friday morning around 9 a.m. headed towards Johns Island, SC where we had reservations for two nights at Oak Plantation Campground. The trip was 116 miles and a little more than a 3 hour drive.

We made good time and found a Publix close by to pick up a few items before checking in. That afternoon Kathy fixed sandwiches for lunch and Michael and I fooled around with getting everything hooked up. The campgrounds had cable, power, wifi and sewer so we were fully hooked up. That evening Kathy cooked crab cakes, filet mignon kabobs and baked potatoes. After dinner we started watching this seasons House of Cards. Normally we have marathon watching of this show and watch almost the whole thing as soon it comes out on Netflix but this season Michael said we had to save this season's shows for our RV trips. We didn't do much else that day. The next morning (Saturday) we woke up early, as usual. Kathy fixed breakfast of coffee, hash browns, sausage, and scrambled eggs. Over breakfast we decided we needed to add an air mattress to the sofa bed. So that was one thing on the days agenda. Another thing was we wanted to go by the Mazda dealership in Charleston. Michael had been looking for a 2017 Mazda Miata RF. Something that would be easy to pull behind the RV, So we went to the local Mazda dealership (Stokes Mazda) where Michael and Kathy test drove a 2017 Miata RF. They must have been impressed because they bought it right there with Michael scheduled to come back on Monday to pickup and bring in his 2002 Red Thunderbird for trade in. Later that afternoon we found an air mattress and then went back to the campgrounds. For dinner Kathy fixed bacon wrapped scallops, BBQ chicken breast and noodles. Ditto to Friday night...we watched House of Cards and went to sleep early. Sunday morning we got up early. We both had a better nights sleep with the addition of the air mattress. We broke camp and headed back to Myrtle Beach.

Monday, Michael left early for Charleston to pick up the Miata.
